When does the iPhone 16 go on sale?

The iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max handsets were announced at Apple’s iPhone event on September 9.

• Pre-orders on Apple’s website will start at 5 a.m. PDT, at 8 a.m. EDT on Friday, September 13.

You get a $30 discount if you buy a phone activated on AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile. That’s why Apple lists the price of the iPhone 16 as $799 and the iPhone 16 Plus as $899—that’s the price with the carrier-activated discount applied.

Buying direct from Apple is one of the few ways to buy an unlocked, SIM-free iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Plus, and it’s the go-to place to join the iPhone Upgrade Program which from $39.50 a month will get you a new iPhone every year including AppleCare+ coverage.
